I got this e-mail from one of my students (Martin) about the latest floods in Fortaleza and how they affected the project. Please read:

As many of you will know, I've been involved with the University of Live (CBC) for several years. This project helps to provide a pathway out of poverty through quality education and training for children in the slums of Fortaleza, Brazil. I'd really appreciate your support now, please. The worst rains in 20 years have caused extensive damage to the site at CBC. The roof has had to be removed from the administration block, affecting the administration office, the computer room, computer and internet connections, the staffroom and two classrooms. In addition, the external walls have fallen down in places and the plumbing and sewerage systems need repair. Beyond fixing these problems, further work is required to prevent them happening again - (better drainage and landscaping) and also a replaster and repaint of much of the site.

Further details are here:

We need £15,000 for the initial repairs, and to make the site a safe and secure place for the children. Please could you help?

Please donate, ask a friend to donate, and pray for the staff and students. Many of them have suffered damage in their own homes and the flood water spreads a lot of disease, so they are having a very difficult time.

It's easy to donate online with a credit or debit card - just go to my JustGiving page:

JustGiving sends your donation straight to Hand-in-Hand (a UK charity supporting the University of Life) and automatically reclaims Gift Aid on all eligible donations, so what you give is worth even more. I hope you'll join me in supporting the University of Life.

Apologies if you receive this more than once.

Thank you.
